Donkey walks are a rewarding experience in Northern Portugal, combining freedom and adventure. It is an excellent combination of slow walking with donkeys through the countryside.
Our donkeys are well trained and will be your partners during this holiday – they will help you carry the children on their back or carry your own picnic in their saddle bags.

You will love the company of these gentle, docile and reassuring animals!

Itinerary

After check-in you can meet your donkey and be shown how to handle and look after him during each walk.

You have the option to do a short donkey walk through the forest – 4 km I 2.48 mi – around 2 hours
or you can relax at your accommodation.

Overnight stay in a glamping or in a country house in Montaria

This walk will take you around the Ancora river the main river in Serra D´Arga.
You will walk along old water pipes that carry water from the river to the watermills and take it into the corn fields.

You get the chance to visit the main square in Montaria village with bars and restaurants where you will be able to stop for a drink or pick some food.

During this tour you will pass through many different landscapes, the banks of the river surrounded by watermills and the mountain areas with wonderful panoramic views.

The highlight of the day will be the visit to Pincho waterfalls and lagoons, where you can make a break to relax and swim in the crystal-clear waters.

Overnight stay in a glamping or in a country house in Montaria

On this day you walk on the Portuguese Camino de Santiago, it is one of the most popular pilgrimage routes in Europe.

The full Camino from Montaria to Santiago de Compostela in Spain is around 200 km / 124 mi, but you only walk on a section of it – 11 km /6.82 mi in Montaria village.

No crowds on the way, because the Camino da Nossa Senhora do Norte is a new Camino and few people do this route.

Follow the yellow arrows, relax and enjoy the stunning views from Montaria mountain village to the sea.

During the walk you may spot the footprints of Iberian wolves (Iberian wolves still living in Serra D´Arga but they run away from people and from our donkeys).

At the end of the walk is time to say goodbye to our donkeys or you can extend your stay with an extra night.
