If you arrive earlier you can walk through the city’s historic heart and across the river to Vila Nova de Gaia where you can enjoy a private cellar tour and wine tasting at W. & J. Graham’s 1890 Lodge.

You can end the day with a visit to one of the best restaurants in Porto to taste the best local dishes from Minho, Tras-os-Montes region, Northern Portugal or from the Atlantic Ocean pairing with fine Douro wines.

We will meet you at your hotel in Porto for a briefing about the walking tour and then we will offer a private transfer to Campanha train station, where you will take a scenic train upriver to Douro Valley, where you will start your self guided inn to inn walking tour (with luggage transfers included).

The views during the train journey are beautiful. On the way you see the Douro river, many mountains, rural villages, vineyards and different landscapes.
The train journey ends at Pinhão train station, where our driver will meet you to pick your bags.

If you don´t like the train idea, on request we can offer a private transfer from your hotel in Porto directly to Pinhão, Douro Valley (extra cost).

Arriving in Pinhão you can do an optional walk from Pinhão to Provesende- 5.64 km I 3.49 miles, around 3h.

In case you don´t want to walk, you can spend time exploring Pinhão on your own, you can visit the local wineries, enjoy a 1h boat trip, relax by the river  and then a taxi can pick you up and transfer you to your accommodation in Provesende.

We offer a morning transfer to the start of the walk in Sabrosa.

You will walk downhill to reach Pinhão river, crossing over the river you go uphill to reach Favaios village, a wine-producing village in Douro Valley.
At Favaios make a detour to the wine and bread museumn and taste thee local moscatel – muscat wine.

Before to reach Alijó make a break at a traditional bakery and taste the delicious bread from Favaios.

Long circular walk: 10 km I 6.2 mi
Short linear walk: 8 km I 4.96 mi

This is a circular route in Tua Natural Park and you will visit São Mamede de Ribatua, a traditional village in Alijó.
The taxi will drop you at the beginning of the walk. You will walk through cork and almonds trees, roman roads, olives groves and explore the wildside of Douro Valley.

During the day you will enjoy great views over Tua Valley from many natural viewpoints and you may spot some Griffon vultures and black vultures.

Long linear walk: 16 km I 9.92 mi
Short linear walk: 11 km I 6.82 mi

Leaving Alijó you strike out on foot southwards, along the ridge that edges the deep tributary valley of the Pinhão river, towards the viewpoint of Casal de Loivos.

At Casal de Loivos you have the option to visit an olive oil museum and learn more about Douro olive oil and taste it.

Go downhill towards your hotel in Pinhão and enjoy the wonderful views over Pinhão and Douro river.

Train journey from Pinhão to Pocinho, the last train station in Douro Valley.
From Pocinho train station we offer a transfer to Côa Museum in Vila Nova de Foz Côa.

Today offers an encounter with the layered history and culture of the Coa Valley, which contains one of the world’s most important ancient rock art sites.
Start with a guided tour of the Coa Museum and Côa Valley Archaeological Park, Prehistoric Rock Art, where you will learn from archaeology experts about the extensive Paleolithic drawings near Vila Nova de Foz Côa, discovered in the late 1980s and designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998.

The Côa Valley Archaeological Park contains some 5,000 engraved drawings of horses, bovines and other animals, human and abstract figures, dated from 22,000 to 10,000 B.C. and documenting continuous human occupation from the end of the Paleolithic Age.

After the guided tour, you can enjoy a delicious lunch at the stylish museum restaurant.

After lunch you have the option to explore Côa Walkways. A 930 m-long walkways connect Côa Museum to the deactivated train station of Côa, near the mouth of River Côa, facing the Douro River.
This is a short route with 890 stairs and a gradient of 160 meters – 1.4 km I 0.86 mi

When you end your visit to Coa Valley, a taxi will drive you back to Pocinho train station to return to Pinhão.

You can return to Porto by train from Pinhão or by boat from Peso da Régua.
