Walking holiday Portugal from Serra de Arga mountains to sea

Our new self-guided walking holiday from Serra de Arga mountains to the sea – starts in Serra de Arga Natural Park, home of traditional villages, waterfalls, Iberian wolves and wild horses and ends at the city of Viana do Castelo by the sea.

After a wonderful walk in the wild mountains you will walk towards the sea to enjoy two different coastal walks discovering part of the camino de Santiago and some traditional towns.

On this tour you have the option to walk in the company of a docile donkey!

Itinerary

Arrival at the quaint mountain village of Montaria on the foothills of the Serra D´Arga Mountains.

You meet your donkey and are shown how to handle and look after him (in case you want to do this holiday in the company of a donkey).

If you arrive earlier you can do a short walk in Montaria – 4.7km / 2.91 mi, around 2 hours.

On this day you will explore Pincho waterfalls in Serra D´Arga!

During the hike you will pass through many different landscapes, the banks of the river surrounded by watermills and the mountain areas with wonderful panoramic views.

During this day you will enjoy panoramic views over Caminha, Portugal and Galicia, Spain.
Leaving Serra D´Arga Natural Park you will walk through the wild mountains and towards the sea in Caminha.

On the last part of the walk you will discover one of best viewpoints in Portugal!

A free day to relax by the beach or as an option you can book a kayak trip in Rio Coura, rent a bike to ride on the banks of Minho river or croos the Minho river by taxi boat to explore Galicia, Spain (it is opposite to Caminha).

Leaving Caminha you walk by Minho river and towards Camarido pine forest.
Walking through the forest you reach Moledo beach and see Insua fortress in the middle of the sea.

From Moledo to Vila Praia de Âncora you enjoy a relaxing and wonderful coastal walk.

Leaving Vila Praia de Âncora you walk along the coast southwards. On the way you see old windmills (moinhos de vento) and you can visit iron-age salt pans and bronze-age rock engravings, both carved in granite outcrops.

This route is part of the Portuguese Camino to Santiago de Compostela and you may see some pilgrims on their own way to Santiago.

You end the donkey walk before to reach the historical centre of Viana do Castelo to avoid walking with the donkey in the city centre.

You can spend the morning walking around the historical city of Viana do Castelo.

In Viana do Castelo you find several buses and trains connections with Porto, Braga or Vigo, Spain.
As an option you can request a private transfer or an extra night in the city.
