São Lourenço da Montaria is a Portuguese village with the largest concentration of watermills (42 mills). Watermills are an important cultural heritage present in this village located in the heart of Serra D’Arga Nature Reserve.
Following ancient paths created by locals in order to reach the old mills, you will walk through some water pipes (levadas) and you will visit 10 watermills. The highlight of this tour will be the visit to the inside of a mill that is still working today.
During this walking tour you will have contact with the local community and you will learn about the local traditions associated with the mills and water management as an essential resource for the local people.
