The cornbread tradition in Montaria village is an old tradition which reaches as far as the 17th century.
Montaria village is away from the crowds and only local people know the area.
The tour starts with a visit to Carmen´s farm in Montaria, it is a private farm with a traditional kitchen.
At Carmen´s farm you have the unique chance to learn how to make the traditional cornbread and you will be able to make your own cornbread!
The finishing process of making cornbread occurs in the burning hot wood-fired oven.
You will be able to deposit the bread inside the oven and close its door with clay which will keep the right temperature in order to bake the bread.
While the bread gets ready in the oven, we will go for a short walk through Montaria village.
You will walk through the forest, visit the traditional irrigation system - water pipes (levadas), see some natural pools an visit the local watermills.
During the walk you will visit the inside of a watermill which is still working today.
Ending the walk we will return to Carmen´s farm to eat the cornbread together with a great meal full of local products and Vinho Verde!
